Media conglomerate ZEEL will launch its Malayalam GEC Zee Keralam by November. The channel has been priced at Rs 0.10 based on Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s new tariff order.
ZEEL will launch Zee Keralam in SD as well as HD format.
ZEEL MD and CEO Punit Goenka had earlier stated that Zee Keralam will tentatively launch by September subject to regulatory approval from the ministry of information and broadcasting (MIB).
“On the regional channels, we will be launching a Malayalam channel this year for certain. We are still awaiting regulatory approval for that. Subject to regulatory approval, we are ready to launch in September,” he stated.
The media conglomerate has appointed Deepti Pillay Sivan as the business head of the channel.
The launch of Malayalam GEC will fill the last gap in the ZEEL portfolio in South India market. ZEEL has a presence in Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada markets.
The Malayalam GEC market is dominated by Star India’s Asianet. The other key players in the market are Surya TV, Mazhavil Manorama, and Flowers TV.
